Three years ago I was extremely fortunate to be guided by Janita after I started receiving abuse and death threats online. This case was very hard to deal with as it was coming from The United States. The FBI were contacted and were also working with Janita to try and stop this online 'stalker' from threatening and abusing my children and I. Without Janita's guidance and support I would not have known where to begin, or how to begin to deal with something so devastating to me and my family. Janita not only offered her very valuable experience to me, but also to my close friends whom were also targeted by this person. I have recommended Janita's services to many people here in Australia as her help when I needed it, was what got me out the other side of a very dark time.
"The training was excellent. Not only did I learn how to activate all of the necessary security settings, I was able to set-up my own Facebook account step-by-step using my android tablet during the class. I would recommend this training to everyone as it makes you aware of what information is collected and provides you with the tools to manage and safely participate in social media".
Janita’s presentation on the effects of and consequences of using social media was by far the best one that we’ve had at our school. She related to us quite well because she uses all kinds of social media apps herself and knew how they worked and what they were mainly used for. She showed us how to “safely” use social media and that something we share on there can be with us for life.”
Last Thursday I attended a talk/information session that was presented to the girls from year 9 – 12. I found this to be extremely interesting and like the girls listened to all the information that was given and stayed around for the question time after the presentation was given. I hadn’t really given a lot of thought to the information that I had given out for various things on the internet, until I listened that day. From this information realised how extremely important it was to keep all the security that I have on my computers and mobile up to date, to slow down some people getting and using my information. I would be more than happy to attend any of Janita’s sessions again.
“I was fortunate to have Janita instruct several agents from our office in the use of social media and what it can do for investigators as it relates to our criminal investigations. Janita was an amazing resource and provided us with many practical know-how, tools and resources to use. Her understanding of social media was exemplary and I would highly recommend her presentations to anyone that has an opportunity to participate in them”.
* My dad always asks me what I am doing online and I never tell him. Now I know why he asks me. * I’m going home to block the person lurking in my online game. * I feel more confident knowing what to do about strangers. * Favourite part was when Janita explained the age group for Facebook, Tumbler, Twitter.
I was scammed by a thieving manipulative person last week, convincingly posing as one of my treasured friends. I am a professional woman, worldly and educated – my expertise being in the world of computers. Nonetheless I was a victim, I gave it no thought at all when a friend in need reached out, but my friend’s account had obviously been hacked. My saviour in this was Janita Docherty. What a woman! Professional, empathic, understanding and savvy. In our midst we have an expert on Facebook security. Like me she has no dislike of the Facebook medium. Like anything used well, it is an invaluable tool. As we now attempt to function in the midst of the information revolution which is only expanding and is encroaching on all our lives, Janita Docherty has the good oil on how to use this wonder of technology well and safely.
Hi Janita, I just wanted to say thank you so much for our chat. From how I felt the minute I got home from school and saw the status until I spoke to you, I now feel so much better than I was before. The advice you gave me was amazing and I will continue to do what you told me. Once again I can’t thank you enough, I really deeply appreciate it so thank you.
It was a pleasure to have you present as part of our staff professional development on the topic of cybercrime and how to ensure our online presence is kept safe and secure. Your lighthearted demeanour and sense of humour were appreciated as you described the dangers and ways to protect against identity theft and other online crimes. Feedback from the session was very positive and staff reported they felt better equipped to take care of themselves and their families, by using the security and safety settings you advised for specific websites. Thank you again it was a great session and a pleasure to work with you.
Janita Docherty presented a Digital Safety Presentation to my year 9 class in May 2016. The presentation encompassed appropriate online navigation; the consequences and dangers involved in inappropriate online navigation; understanding and respecting the law regarding inappropriate content, bullying, grooming and sexting; and relevant resources designed to deepen students understanding of digital safety. Janita’s presentation was consistently engaging and relevant. She provided appropriately detailed and age related examples which stemmed from her practical knowledge and experience in supporting young people in these areas. Janita has provided our students with a highly relevant and important presentation.
“Attending the Facebook Investigators course conducted by Janita Docherty opened a range of investigative avenues we had not previously utilised. I was a reasonably experienced Facebook user with previous involvement in cyber oriented investigations but much of the material covered in the course was new to me. The extensive market penetration of Facebook and the quality of the training, mean I would not hesitate in recommending this course to all investigators, not only those dealing with cybercrimes. We used some of these techniques to solve a recent matter where we identified a large volume of victims quickly through Facebook rather than the traditional intelligence requests”

Janita, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the time you spent with me and the other officers from my agency. I wanted to let you know how important the information you shared with us is proving to be. I have spent time sharing your pointers on safety and security for police officers on Facebook. All of the officers I have spoken with found that even though they thought they understood how Facebook worked; and felt they were adequately secured- they were not. The information you have shared is proving to help in keeping officers’ identities a little more secure and therefore improving officer safety. Your work is appreciated and is certainly worth all of the effort you have put in to researching this topic. Thank you so much for your help. Mike

Just came out from an awesome cyber safety session with Janita Docherty. I was shocked. What I learnt tonight about the dangers our children face when on computers was amazing. So much stuff I didn’t know. If we parents don’t keep on top of this stuff I believe we are letting our kids down. I encourage all my friends to Google Janita and attend one of her sessions. I certainly will again.
